The Story Behind Kells Security Solutions
From British Army sniper to Level 4 qualified cyber security specialist, here's why I started this business, and why I want to help you and your family stay safe online.
Who I Am
I'm Jay Kells, and Kells Security Solutions, the UK online safety and scam awareness business I founded in 2024, is a one-person operation. No call centre, no jargon-spouting sales team, just me, using what I've learned the hard way to help you stay safe online. Before this, I served in the British Army as a sniper with the Royal Green Jackets from 2000 to 2006, including two tours of Iraq. After a serious head injury I was medically discharged, and I rebuilt my career from the ground up, eventually working as a freelance copywriter. Then I got hacked myself. My Facebook account was stolen and money disappeared from my bank, the exact sinking feeling I now help other people avoid. That was the turning point. I studied cybersecurity flat out, completing a two-year Level 4 Cyber Security Incident Response Diploma in nine months, and set up Kells Security Solutions to teach ordinary people plain-English online safety, no tech degree required. I also point people towards trusted resources like Get Safe Online whenever they want a second opinion alongside mine. I've also written a book, Spot the Scam: A Plain English Guide to the Ten Cons Trying to Catch You Out. It walks through the ten scams I see catching people out most often, from fake tech support calls to the "Hi Mum" text, in the same plain English you'll find everywhere on this site. I'm also a contributor to CIVVY Magazine, the magazine for those who have served, where I write about the scams aimed at veterans and people leaving the forces.
